Mount Rainier National Park

We spent two beautiful days in Mount Rainier National Park.  The weather was awesome and we were able to get some cool hiking in.  The first day we drove from our camp site at Ohanapecosh  to Paradise and walked up to Panorama Point.  It was only two miles up, but we gained 1700 feet in elevation.  It was a bit foggy and we only got a few, quick glimpses of the summit.

Alpine Meadows heading up to panorama Point.

Less vegetation, and a little bit of the mountain.

Occasionally some glacier could be seen.

Moving up above tree line.

Sydney found a friendly marmot.

Some were very friendly.

Getting higher and grumpier.

Almost to the top of Panorama Point.

Hard to see, but the elevation is 6800 feet.

This is what you could see on a clear day.

This is what we saw.

Sydney found another friend.

And another friend.

The wildflowers were still pretty.

At least at lower elevations.

On day two we headed towards Paradise and stopped at Reflection Lake.  Although the mountain was out in all it's glory on the way up, some clouds rolled in by the time we got there.  Some reflection could be seen, but not much.  From Reflection Lake we took the Pinnacle Peak.  This was another upwards climb, but only 2.6 miles round trip.  We saw more of the mountain, but not as much as we would have liked.  Mount Adams was also partially hidden, but still the view was pretty great.

A little bit of a reflection in Reflection Lake.

We began our hike up to Pinnacle Peak.

It seemed a long ways off.

It didn't seem too steep at first.

We were being watched closely.

Rainier tried to make an appearance.

A few too many clouds.

We could see a bit of the mountain all the way up.

The trail got a little rocky.

But the view was nice.

Looking back down the trail.

Sydney had to share her lunch.

On the way back home we did a couple quick jaunts ( a 1 mile and a 0.5 mile) before heading back to the trailer for the night.

A cool little box canyon.

It is only 115 feet to the water below.

A short walk to Steven's Creek

For a little creek it had some power.

Our home in Mount Rainier National Park.  This is the way to get school work done!
