Corn Palace and Little Town on the Prairie

We continued our South Dakota adventures with a trip to Mitchell to see the famed Corn Palace.  It was a late corn crop this year, so they were just beginning to redecorate.  The palace was interesting as it was.  The corn murals were impressive.

There was a basketball practice going on while we were there.

For all of you Little House on the Prairie fans, we also visited De Smet, which is where Laura Ingalls Wilder one lived with her family.  Her books Little Town on the Prairie, The Long Winter, By the Shores of Silver Lake, and The First Four Years were all based in this area.  We toured the Surveyor's house, the school Laura attended, the school she taught in, and her parent's home.

  1. I always wondered what the Corn Palace looked like - love the outhouse murel. The Little House building are really interesting too. Looks warm there still.
