Congaree National Park

The Congaree is a nice little national park in South Carolina that we spent some time in today.  It is only 22,200 acres, but it is the largest contiguous tract of old-growth bottomland hardwood fores in the US.  It is a neat environment, with some pretty cool trees.

Boardwalk Trail

Bald Cypress and "knees".  These "knees" are roots that have grown upward and may help anchor the tree.

Water Tupelo

Blue Heron

Clumps of Water Tupelo

Cool growths

Former state champion Loblolly Pine.  It is over 150 feet tall.
